[YEG] Call to Unity: A Fundraising Event for the Typhoon Haiyan Victims



We would like to share the following information regarding future fundraising event coming to Edmonton:

"On November 08, 2013 the Philippine was devastated by what was recorded the strongest typhoon known. Typhoon Haiyan caused catastrophic damage throughout much of Leyte and Samar islands, where cities and towns were largely destroyed. As of 6:00pm local time on November 16, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) confirmed 3,637 fatalities across the country with 1,100 missing; 12,000 injured and 11 million are still displaced and affected by the typhoon. The full-scale of the disaster remains unclear.

The Alberta Filipino Canadian Disaster Fund was established by the Council of Edmonton Filipino Associations (CEFA) in partnership with the office of the Philippine Honorary Consul General, Mrs. Esmeralda Agbulos and the various Filipino Organizations and Businesses to be means of uniting the Filipino Canadian community in providing support and assistance to the affected victims and their families.

A fundraising event supported by Alberta Deputy Premiere Hon. Thomas Lukaszuk, Minister of Health Hon. Rona Ambrose, Servus Credit Union, James H. Brown and Associates, any many other businesses and organizations will be held on November 24, 2013 at Boyle Renaissance, 9538-103A Ave. Edmonton, AB from 2:30pm to 5:00pm.

The Government of Canada has made a commitment to match all donations dollar for dollar, in addition to the immediate emergency assistance provided and the deployment of elements of the Canadian Armed Forces’ Disaster Assistance Response Team and the Canadian Red Cross medical team.

We invite you; your family and friends to join us make a difference in the lives on the people affected by this very heartbreaking and devastating natural disaster. We have partnered with the Canadian Red Cross and the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace to accept monetary donations that will directly support the Typhoon Haiyan victims and a tax receipt will be issued for all your donations.

Please join us in solidarity by bringing hope and love to all the victims and survivors of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. Your generous contributions will go a long way in making a difference and rebuilding lives and communities.
