Alberta government helps with Philippine disaster assistance

The Redford government is committing up to a half million dollars to support relief efforts in the Philippines by matching Albertans’ donations to the Canadian Red Cross.
“Along with all Albertans, the Alberta government is concerned for the well-being of Filipinos affected by the devastating typhoon.  We offer our heartfelt sympathy to those who have had family and friends affected by this massive disaster.”

- Thomas Lukaszuk, Deputy Premier, Minister of Enterprise and Advanced Education
The relief money comes from the Other Initiatives Program administered by the ministry of Culture.
Alberta is home to more than 100,000 people of Filipino descent who are active in our communities and who provide us with the multicultural diversity that makes our province and our country strong.
“Government support goes a long way in ensuring those suffering from the after effects of Typhoon Haiyan receive basic supplies that are necessary for recovery and survival. We thank all Albertans for their support in this time of great need.”

- Esmeralda Agbulos, Philippines Honourary Consul General in Edmonton
"The Filipino Canadian Community in Calgary expresses its gratitude to the Government of Alberta and the people of Canada for extending a helping hand to the Philippines in its time of extreme need. Our community will never forget this gesture and we will forever be grateful."

- Godofredo Ferdinand Aguirre, Honourary Consul General in Calgary
Donations to the Canadian Red Cross can be made online or you can telephone 1-800-418-1111 for more information.
Under the Building Alberta Plan, our government is investing in families and communities, living within our means, and opening new markets for Alberta's resources to ensure we're able to fund the services Albertans told us matter most to them. We will continue to deliver the responsible change Albertans voted for.
